迎接2014 紐約時報廣場降下水晶球

隨著時差的關係，全球各地陸續迎接嶄新的2014年；在美國聯邦最高法院大法官索托瑪約(Sonia Sotomayor)帶領進行最後60秒倒數計時、並且啟動按鈕下，全球矚目的美國紐約時報廣場水晶球緩緩降下，為美國東部拉開2014年序幕。

來自世界各地的人潮湧進曼哈頓中城，爭睹水晶球降落的剎那，其中許多人都是至少提前12小時趕到時報廣場，等候參與跨年活動。

按鈕啟動時報廣場水晶球降落儀式的工作，通常是由紐約市長負責，但原任市長彭博(Michael Bloomberg)的12年任期於31日屆滿，而新任市長當選人白斯豪(Bill de Blasio)則是準備在午夜過後、也就是當地時間1日凌晨宣誓就職，因此，兩人都沒有出席時報廣場的跨年活動。
