「保單價值準備金」簡單來說，就是保單累積的現金價值。

以一般的傳統壽險保單來說，保戶繳交的保險費，進入保險公司之後，會先扣除業務員佣金等必要支出後，存在保險公司，用來支應未來的保險金給付。

保戶如果要辦理保單貸款、轉換契約、計算解約金等，都要以保單價值準備金做為計算基礎。

以解約金為例，就是保單價值準備金扣除解約費用後，剩餘的金額。依規定，保險公司收取解約費用，最高不能超過保單價值準備金的25%。
