ChipMOS to enjoy mid-to-high single digit sales growth in 3Q13

IC backend services company ChipMOS Technologies is expected to see its revenues grow by a mid-to-high single digit rate in the third quarter of 2013 buoyed by strong demand from the LCD driver IC and logic IC segments, according to industry sources.
The overall capacity utilization rate at ChipMOS is expected to drop to 83-84% in the third quarter compared to 88% in the previous quarter due to the installation of new production facilities, said the sources, but adding that ChipMOS will see its gross margin top 20% in the third quarter thanks to an improvement in product mix.
ChipMOS is also likely to land more backend orders for small- to medium-size driver ICs from semiconductor clients in Korea in the fourth quarter of 2013, driving sales momentum in the quarter.
Orders for memory and logic ICs will also remain relatively strong in the fourth quarter, the sources added.
Due to capacity ramps at its LCD driver IC testing lines, ChipMOS' capex for 2013 is expected to reach NT$3.8 billion (US$128.5 million), increasing 30% from the amount it projected in the first half of the year, the sources noted.
Additionally, ChipMOS also plans to ramp up its 12-inch wafer bumping capacity to 24,000 units a month in the second half of 2013.
