寫一堆驚嘆號，你的英文e-mail風格好「幼稚」

你寫的e-mail有沒有夾雜著很多驚嘆號、問號或表情符號？

  • I can't believe it!!!
  • It should have gone differently!!
  • Why did you do this?!
  • I’ll see you :-)))

這樣表達情緒得體嗎？網站Corporette有一名讀者寫信問編輯，怎麼在e-mail裡，既能表達自己語氣，又不顯得幼稚或娘娘腔呢？e-mail裡能用驚嘆號嗎？

讀者說，每次試著用驚嘆號傳達積極的語氣，只是想要強調自己的積極性，但卻又擔心會不會顯得幼稚。他還發現，還有男性在e-mail裡不太用驚嘆號……這篇文章反應熱烈，有115則評論。

其實，要表達積極的態度，並不一定要用重複的驚嘆號，或過於草率的表情符號，我們來看看幾個例子：

1、你想要告訴部屬他做的不錯
（X）Good job!!!
（O）Well done!
（O）Outstanding!
短句後加一個驚嘆號，是一個有力的收尾，不至過度誇張。

2、不得不向主管報告壞消息，驚嘆號會造成反效果，火上加油
（X）I am so sorry this happened!!!
（X）…but on the plus side no one lost a limb!!!
這種語氣在e-mail往來最令人難受。壞消息，經常需要解釋或緩和，最好是打電話或者直接到老闆辦公室說，寫成e-mail難保不會被重複轉發、誤解，還有被存檔日後拿出來被檢討的風險。

擔心別人誤解你的語氣，可以直接用說的。或者你得相信自己的修辭，寫這樣的句子，一個驚嘆號也沒有，還是有驚嘆的功能：Great news, team: we are done with the doc review.（好消息，同事們，檔案檢查大功告成。）
