洋基想延續連勝的氣勢，不敵老虎隊適時安打蠶食搶分。儘管Jacoby Ellsbury單場轟出2發全壘打，但洋基打線就只有他發揮，終場2比5落敗，中斷近期的5連勝。

老虎先發投手Rick Porcello此役面對近況火燙的洋基仍不畏懼，主投8局，雖然只有2次三振，但製造了大量滾地球換得出局數，滾飛比14比2，被擊出9安只失掉2分，拿下本季第15勝(8敗)，跟隊友Max Scherzer並列美聯勝投王。

「在職業生涯我很努力，我為我的在球場上的成績滿到驕傲，」Porcello說，「我希望能繼續保持得更好，我不認為我已經達到我所想要的那份結果，但目前最重要的還是要幫助這支球隊進入季後賽。」

洋基對此役由近況絕佳的Brandon McCarthy先發，但在第2局滿壘時投出保送，免費奉送老虎1分，3局再被擊出安打失掉第2分，安然度過2局後，6、7局再因連續安打失分而退場。

洋基隊打線在前8局只靠Jacoby Ellsbury的兩支陽春砲得分，即使Porcello退場，第9局面對老虎牛棚仍討不到任何便宜，因為Joe Nathan只投9顆球就讓洋基隊三上三下，拿下本季第28救援成功。
