中信兄弟元旦在龍潭球場開訓，投手先報到，5日全體球員到齊，總教練謝長亨表示「新的球季、好的開始，希望可以打出讓大家滿意的成績」，同時草總也說「新球季不打算留湯瑪仕」。

兄弟新球季開訓跑第一名，投手先報到，草總說「原因很簡單，希望投手可以先熱」，對於新球季，草總也有規畫，他說「新球季希望找洋砲，以守二壘、游擊、三壘的內野手為主，投手戰力部分，選秀會已選了鄭凱文、謝榮豪，本土投手戰力應該足夠，所以未來找的2名洋投，以1先發、1救援為主」。

草總31日明確地說，「我們已再找新的救援洋投，因為湯瑪仕的壓制力明顯不如過去」，所以兄弟不想再找湯瑪仕回鍋。

湯瑪仕2012年5月加入象隊，戰績3勝0敗23救援、防禦率0.75，2013年戰績1勝4敗26救援、防禦率1.57。
