【大紀元2013年10月10日訊】 溫哥華公共圖書館近日宣布，在10月21日至10月27日 「歡迎回來週（Welcome Back Week）」期間，居民如親自歸還手中逾期未還的圖說、DVD和CD，可豁免被罰款。
　　
溫哥華公共圖書館負責人強調，這些逾期未還的圖書需由讀者親自交還給櫃檯圖書管理員，他們可手工操作，將電腦裡記錄的讀者的罰款項刪除。如果直接放回還書箱，將不享受此優惠。電子書（E-book）因有自動歸還功能，不存在逾期罰款問題，所以不在此大赦範圍內。
　　
溫哥華公共圖書館董事會主席Catherine Evans對此次推出的一次性舉措表示非常高興，「我們知道有些人如果手中有長時間逾期未還的圖書，就簡單地選擇不再來圖書館了，該計畫可以鼓勵他們回來，無需擔心罰款問題，其中有些書可能已過期幾個月或幾年。」
　
如果過期的圖書或圖書卡已丟失，借書者可去圖書館向管理員作出解釋，工作人員將找到辦法幫助他們解決。

9月，一名前卑詩大學教授在整理儲物間時發現了一本47年前從北愛爾蘭皇后大學圖書館借來的的圖書，並寄還給該校，皇后大學並未向他索要罰款，據估算，罰款高達14,000加元。　　◇
