受食安醜聞影響，麥當勞8月全球同店銷售寫下10年來最深跌幅。另外，隨著健康意識抬頭，明星產品快樂兒童餐也逐漸失去對兒童的魅力。

麥當勞9日公布，8月全球同店銷售（開店至少13個月）銳減3.7%，為2003年3月迄今最糟表現。其中，占公司總營收32%的美國同店銷售下滑2.8%，連續第4個月衰退，亞太、中東與非洲地區降幅達14.5%。

麥當勞坦承，8月遭逢強勁逆風，主因是俄羅斯地區銷售疲弱，且部份中國分店爆發使用過期肉的醜聞。

麥當勞先前坦承，由於民眾對健康與新鮮飲食的需求與日俱增，速食店的生意大不如前。如今這波趨勢已蔓延到年幼的消費者群。

根據Crain's Chicago Business報導，麥當勞已不再是兒童心目中的最愛，小朋友的新歡是Chick-fil-A－－只賣真食物的炸雞店。

數據顯示，麥當勞在所有連鎖速食業者中業績掉最多。2011年，育有12歲或12歲以下幼童的家庭占麥當勞消費群的18.6%，到了2014年中比率已降至14.6%。
